Why Children Need Regular Eye Exams
Thursday, February 15th, 2018, 1:42 amIf your child has a family history of vision problems or exhibits symptoms of eye issues, she or he may require regular official eye exams. Even in cases where no genetic risk factors are present, children need regular vision check-ups at 6 months, 3 years, and before first grade. Depending on your child’s specific situation, they may require more frequent vision exams.
Symptoms of vision problems in children
As your child grows, be aware of the following signs in your child that could represent eye issues: poor academic performance, no desire to attend school, problems with paying attention, issues with writing and reading, difficulty seeing what is written on the black board, double or blurry vision, eye pain and headaches, taking a long time to finish homework assignments. Many of these signs are certainly representative of many children simply being children, but they may also point to vision problems.
Pediatric vision care at Marion Eye Center
At Marion Eye Center & Optical, we understand the need to regularly test for healthy vision. In children as well as adults, comprehensive eye exams are necessary for the treatment and diagnosis of vision problems or injuries. Eye exams allow for early detection of potential problems so treatment can start before a problem gets worse. During a children’s eye exam, visual acuity, eye tracking, and focusing skills will be tested. They will also be examined for nearsightedness, farsightedness, amblyopia, crossed eyes, dyslexia and color blindness.
At Marion Eye Center & Optical, we strive to provide the highest quality care for you and your family. When a vision problem is detected, our experienced team of doctors will use safe and minimally invasive procedures as they consider the specific needs of a child’s developing vision.
