Dr. Fatima Ahmad was born and raised in Southern Illinois. She attended Harvard University for her undergraduate studies and graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Biochemical Sciences. She received her M.D. degree from Harvard Medical School. While there, she was involved in scientific research studying the microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus. She also performed clinical research investigating the use of intravitreal anti-VEGF medications for age-related macular degeneration.
Dr. Fatima completed her ophthalmology training at Wills Eye Hospital, the top-ranked program in the country. While there she performed clinical research investigating the treatment of macular edema following cataract surgery. She was also a contributing author for multiple books, including the Wills Eye Manual and the Wills Eye Institute Five Minute Ophthalmology Consult. After completing her training, Dr. Fatima served as a clinical instructor in ophthalmology where she was involved in supervising and training future ophthalmic surgeons. She has been an invited speaker at continuing medical education meetings and has given lectures on various topics in ophthalmology.
