Dr. Bowen completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1994, and he graduated with his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Missouri-St. Louis College of Optometry with cum laude honors in 2001. Afterward, he completed his residency in primary eye care and ocular disease from Northeastern State University College of Optometry at Fayetteville Veterans Affairs Medical Center (Arkansas) in 2002.
Early in his career, he was a former staff optometrist/Assistant Adjunct Faculty Member of Southern College of Optometry at John J. Pershing Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, MO. Afterward, Dr. Bowen practiced at a prominent large private group practice in the greater St. Louis metropolitan area for over six years prior to joining St. Louis Children’s Hospital in 2009. Dr. Bowen became an Instructor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at both pediatric and adult ophthalmology groups at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis Department of Ophthalmology where he practiced at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Center for Advanced Medicine, Barnes Jewish West County, and St. Louis Children’s Specialty Care Center locations before joining Marion Eye Centers in 2017. Also, Dr. Bowen was an assistant adjunct faculty member of University of Missouri-St. Louis College of Optometry from 2014-15 thru Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Furthermore, Dr. Bowen has previously lectured at the Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine Department of Visual Sciences and Ophthalmology, St. Louis Children’s Hospital, and various other locations throughout his career.
Dr. Bowen has been a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry since 2003, and he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry in 2013. He is still active as a senior examiner with the National Board of Examiners in Optometry.
Dr. Bowen is married to his beautiful wife with two children, and he resides near Scott Air Force Base in Shiloh, IL.
